DESCRIPTION

Hemp is an annual plant used for many purposes throughout its over 10,000-year history. While cultivated primarily as a source of fiber, it's also grown for its oil, seeds, and medicinal products. Hemp is used in paper, fabric, rope, plastic composites, food, biodiesel fuel, and other products. The United States Declaration of Independence was written on hemp paper.

During World War II, the United States encouraged farmers to grow hemp to replace imported hemp from Japanese-controlled provinces, and the classic film Hemp for Victory was produced by the U.S. Federal Government in 1942 to extoll the plant's many virtues.
